View included biomarkers & what each measures
- Total ProteinThe combined amount of albumin and globulin in the blood. It gives an overall view of protein balance.
- AlbuminThe main protein made by the liver. It helps move hormones, vitamins and drugs around the body and reflects liver synthetic function.
- GlobulinA group of proteins that includes antibodies and transport proteins, and is usually interpreted alongside albumin and total protein.
- Total BilirubinA yellow pigment produced when red blood cells are broken down. It is processed by the liver, so raised levels can reflect liver or bile-duct function.
- Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP)An enzyme found mainly in the liver, bile ducts and bone. Raised levels are interpreted alongside other liver and bone markers.
- Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST)An enzyme found in the liver, muscle and other tissues. It is interpreted alongside the other liver markers rather than in isolation.
- Gamma-GT (GGT)An enzyme found in the liver and bile ducts, often raised by alcohol, medication or bile-duct conditions.
